Title: Evaluating and Enhancing a Management Information System with Web
Application Integration
Objective
The objective of this assignment is to provide students with practical experience in analyzing an organization’s Management Information System (MIS) alongside its web application integration. Students will investigate how MIS and web applications help achieve business goals, support decision-making, and provide a competitive advantage. Additionally, students will create a prototype for a new web application feature that could further enhance the organization’s MIS.

Group Composition
Groups should consist of 5-6 members, depending on the number of group
members allocated on Canvas. Students are required to self-enrol in the group
created on Canvas.
Each member MUST contribute to the assignment.

Task Description
1. Select a Company: Each group is required to choose an organization that
uses both MIS and web applications. The organization could be any business
that provides online services, such as an e-commerce platform, healthcare
provider, logistics company, etc.

2. Analyze the MIS and Web Application – Investigate how the company’s MIS
and web applications integrate. You are expected to examine several aspects
such as data flow, decision-making support, user experience, and security.

3. Create a Prototype – Design a mock-up of a web application feature that
enhances the organization’s MIS using any web development tools such as
Wix, Google Sites, Canva and etc.

Assignment Structure

Part 1: Introduction to MIS and Web Applications (10%)

Describe the organization: Provide a brief background on the organization,
including its business model, industry, and products/services.
Business Objectives: Outline the business objectives of the organization.
Outline the MIS and web applications: Identify the main components of the
company’s MIS (software, hardware, databases) and the web applications
(e.g., e-commerce platform, customer portal) that integrate with it. Explain how

Part 2: MIS and Web Applications (20%)

Role of MIS and Web Applications: Describe how the integration of MIS and
Web applications support the company’s key business objectives.
Decision-Making Support: Analyze how web applications assist in making
informed business decisions, providing examples of any analytics dashboards,
customer feedback tools, or reporting features.
Competitive Edge: Assess how the web application may provide a competitive
advantage in the market through features like personalization, fast service, or
better data access.

Part 3: Evaluating MIS and Web Application Effectiveness (20%)

Strengths and Limitations: Describe the strengths and weaknesses of the
MIS and web application in terms of functionality, usability, and alignment with
business goals.
Data Management and Security: Evaluate data flow from the web application
into the MIS and examine data security, privacy, and quality. Propose ways to
improve data management and minimize security risks.
System Integration and Scalability: Assess how well the web application
integrates with other company systems and its ability to scale with
organizational growth.

Part 4: Recommendations for Improvement (20%)

Propose Improvements: Suggest three improvements for the web application
to better support the MIS and business objectives/goals.
Emerging Technologies: Discuss any new web technologies that could be
implemented to further enhance the MIS and user experience.

Part 5: Web Application Prototype (20%)

Design a Feature Prototype: Develop a mock-up or prototype of a feature that would enhance the web application’s integration with the MIS. Include
descriptions or annotations explaining the purpose of each component.

Screenshot: You are required to properly screenshot your prototype system
and include it under Part 5 of your report.

Part 6: Conclusion and Reflection (10%)

Reflection on Group Collaboration: Reflect on the group experience, insights
about integrating web applications with MIS and the challenges faced during
prototype creation. Each member is required to explain your contribution and tasks completed.

Submission Instructions

Each group are required to submit a report of Microsoft Word or PDF format, which comprises of the following:

i) Cover page
ii) Table of Content
iii) Introduction
iv) Content (Part 1 until Part 6)
v) References
vi) Turnitin Report

The report should be submitted to a Turnitin plagiarism check. Please include a copy of the Turnitin report in the final copy for submission.

The report should be submitted to Canvas at the latest by 24th November 2024, 23:59 Malaysian Time. Any late or no submission will be given a ZERO mark.
